Buying a System

What system do I need?

We differentiate between active and passive technology, below are some guidelines on the different types of timing systems.

Passive System:
The RACE RESULT passive system is the perfect system for large scale events like Marathons, MTB-races, Triathlons and obstacle courses. It consists of a decoder and a, foldable, ground antenna mat. The antenna mat for the passive chips is set up in under a minute and can be used at almost any event. The standard length is 4.8 m but can be extended up to 8 m, it can also be shortened.

Active system:
The RACE RESULT active system is ideal for biking, inline skating, elite-triathlons, motorsports, skiing and mud-races.
It consists of a decoder, the active extension and a loop cable. Speeds of up to 250 km/h are no problem for the active system.
The Loop Box was invented to provide an easy way to get split times. This standalone box can operate in two modes, if it is close enough to the main system it will transmit the data wirelessly (repeat mode) if it is too far away, it will save the data on the ActivePro Transponder which will be read at the main system (store mode).

In Summary:
Passive System:

  • slower speeds (<40 km/h)
  • Running events, MTB, triathlons, obstacle courses (without mud)
  • disposable and re-usable transponders

Active System:

  • High speed, high accuracy, high precision
  • Bike races, inline-skating, elite-triathlon, motorsport, skiing, mud races, open water swimming
  • re-usable transponders

Important rules of thumb:
Mud Run: If the face or the bib is covered in mud, so that the participant cannot be identified -> use the Active System
Swimming: If the finish line is in the water -> use the Active System; if the finish line is on land it is possible to use the Passive system (make sure there is ample distance between exiting the water and the finish line) although we still recommend the Active System.

What kind of transponders do I need?

Every participant needs one or two transponders, with which he can be uniquely identified. We offer Active and Passive transponders which only work with the corresponding system.

Passive Transponders

There are different types of Passive transponders. We differentiate between single  and multi-use transponders. The single-use transponders are further divided up into transponders applied to customized media (i.e. race numbers) and transponders on a roll.

Single-use Transponders:

  • Chip race number: This is the perfect service if you need race numbers and transponders. The transponders come already applied to the race number and coded to the race number. The participant only needs to fasten the race number to their chest and is ready to go.
  • MTB Plate with Chip: The ideal combination for mountain bike races that need a race number and a transponder. Usually we sell the race numbers in the format DIN A5 but we can produce any custom size. The race number is attached to the handlebar using cable ties.
  • Disposable triathlon tag: The disposable triathlong tag is worn around the ankle and is designed primarily for triathlons. The transponder must be worn over any piece of clothing such as neoprene wetsuits. These tags should only be used with the 4.8m antenna mat.
  • Bib transponder: the transponder come equipped with a foam spacer. The transponder needs to be away from the human body to function properly which is why the foam spacer is normally necessary. The transponder is meant for sticking on race numbers.
  • Simple tags on roll:  this transponder comes without the foam spacer and is meant for use on race numbers that are not worn on the human body (i.e. MTB race numbers)

Multi-use Transponder:

  • RACE RESULT HuTag: mutli-use transponder for triathlons and mud-races. The HuTag is waterproof and is attached to the ankle using the included Velcro strap.

Active Transponders

We offer four different Active-Transponders:

ActiveBasic V3: For clubs and events that appreciate the reliability of active technology and can do without the highest accuracy, tracking and store mode.

ActivePro V3: The best active transponder for most events with high accuracy and speed, long battery life and store/tracking mode.

ActivePro V3 Performance: High-end transponders for pro races with the highest accuracy and the most stable data transmission in sprint finishes.

MotorKart V3: Special transponder for timing go-karts (up to 120 km/h).
